YOGA MIX: NAMASTE BITCHES.

Now I wouldn’t call myself a yogi. But I am all about that millennial #YOGILIFE. I try and do at least one yoga class a week – the hot vinyasa or power kind in the early hours of the morn – as afterwards I’m left feeling very zen and ready to act like a Girlboss the rest of the day. Especially when the class is fused with a little meditation at the end, so I can top up on that mindfulness shit.

I’ve attempted to jump on the YouTube workout bandwagon on numerous occasions but struggled not only to motivate my way through the entire video while simultaneously fighting off two cats who want to join in the fun. But also, trying to find a suitable soundtrack to downward dog to is a struggle. I’m not exactly feeling the melodic gonging you hear in some studios, so OBVS I reached out to one of my musically inclined mates for a mix…

Gina Shim describes her style as “upbeat, happy with a dash of nastayyy,” and “loves how music carries emotions and makes us feels things; how it spreads and shares different moods and vibrations through music.” So understandably her #VIBE is perfect for yoga. She tends to play a bit of everything from deep house, nu disco to tech house, tribal and techno itself. This mix is a little softer than her others, which you can listen to HERE.

I met DJ Shimmy G in Beirut, although she’s now relocated to Berlin – conveniently my two favourite cities to dance in – and she emits a kind of happy glow that’s evident in her music too. “Generally, I love to play music that makes people feel happy and want to dance, but I am also a lover of booty-shaking beats so heavy baselines are a must.” Her favourite gig to date was at Bunker in Toronto – the first time she’d played on home soil, and where she was first introduced to house music back in the day. “It was a tough crowd who know their music, so I was super nervous [although] it ended up being super amazing. The energy was incredible.”
